ABOUT US

History

In 1970 Dr. Adrian Barber purchased his first Chiropractic Clinic in Kenai, Alaska. Since then, he has helped open many other clinics around the state bringing chiropractic care to places such as Kodiak, Soldotna and Eagle River. In 1984 Dr. Barber decided to build a new clinic to be the permanent home of Community Chiropractic Clinic. Over the years the clinic has grown to provide a multitude of services, and has added staff and doctors to help accommodate the growing need for wellness centered healthcare. The addition of services, doctors and staff has enabled the clinic to offer some of the most advanced treatment options in Anchorage. CCC continues to operate in the spirit of Dr. B.J. Palmer's philosophy, embraces the advancement in medical research as it relates to chiropractic treatment, and focuses on the overall health and well being of each individual patient

Philosophy

Early healers in history understood the relationship between the condition of the spine and health.

Hippocrates advised...

"Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases."

Based on the teachings of D.D. Palmer and his son, Dr. B.J. Palmer, chiropractic is viewed as a philosophy, a science and an art. It is a set of beliefs about the human body and the natural order of the universe.

The science of chiropractic emphasizes the relationship between the spine and the nervous system, and how that relationship affects function and health. Spinal misalignments (known as vertebral subluxations) can interfere with the transmission of information from the brain, over the spinal cord and/or nerve roots to any or all systems of the body. The resulting altered information produces altered function and lowered resistance, which often results in symptoms and disease.

Doctors of chiropractic use a broad range of techniques to locate, analyze and gently correct vertebral subluxations. They do this so that the body’s communication system can work more effectively to initiate, control and coordinate the various functions of the cells, organs and systems of the body.

The chiropractic approach to health care is holistic, stressing the patient’s overall well-being. It recognizes that many factors affect health, including exercise, diet, rest, environment and heredity. Chiropractic focuses on maintaining optimal health naturally so that the body is better able to resist disease, rather than simply treating the symptoms of disease.

Chiropractors use natural, drugless, non-surgical health care, and rely on the body’s inherent recuperative abilities. Their vision encompasses the entire individual in all of his or her unique complexity, and they work in partnership with their patients to ensure optimal health and wellness in all facets of their lives.
